What are the details of purchasing and using my own SSL secure certificate for my LinkSky hosting account?
Here are the steps:
1 -- Order a fixed IP address for your account. This is technically required in order to host your own SSL cert. It will raise your hosting fee by an additional $3 per month. Please use the LinkSky account request form to order the fixed IP - Request Form
2 -- At the same time, use the comment box on the request form to ask that a "request key" be sent to you for an SSL certificate for your account.
For the generation of the request key, we will need to know the following:
-- Your name
-- Your hosted domain name w/ subdomain (i.e. the version you would like to use in your secure address, e.g. secure.domain.com, domain.com, www.domain.com, etc.)
-- Your department within your company
-- Your company name (or your name if sole proprietor)
-- Your email mailing address
-- Your company mailing address
-- Your company telephone number
(Please know that if you use your company name rather than your personal name, the certificate provider will ask that you fax your Dunn and Bradstreet ID number, or for your company's articles of incorporation, or for a copy of your business license and/or other professional licenses.)
Please also include this information in the comment box of the secure request form. If we do not receive this information there, we will use what is in our accounting records for your hosting account.
Please note, this information will be encoded into the SSL key, and you may be asked to provide (via fax) a business license, fictitious (name) business statement, a photo ID, etc. by the 3rd party certificate provider.
3 -- When you receive the request key, submit this to a SSL certificate provider upon ordering the SSL cert from this 3rd party provider. We recommend the $29.95 Starfield certificate that you can purchase at LinkSkyDomains.com
4 -- When you receive your certificate code, email the code to help@linkskysupport.com and we will install the certificate for your account. (No installation fee will be required.)
Then at that point, you will be able to use https://www.YourDomain.com/pages etc. to encrypt any portion of your site that does not contain off-site hot linked items which are brought into the page you want to encrypt, e.g. off-site hit counters, etc.
Please let us know if you have any questions. - help@linkskysupport.com (Please include your hosted domain name in the subject line when you write.)
